Welcome
You have come to the right place if you need help realizing your dream of starting your own family. Egg Donation South Africa is willing and able to help you along this journey.
The first in vitro fertilization pregnancy was described in 1978 in England, and the first pregnancy through egg donation in Australia in 1984. In 1986, DR. K Wiswedel, who now heads the Cape Fertility Clinic, described the first South African egg donation pregnancy.
Technology has certainly come a long way since then, and today egg donation is a routine treatment performed around the world just like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and Intra Cytoplasm Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Who needs egg donation?
Women from all walks of life can find themselves in need of egg donation. Those seeking such treatment are women who:
- Are menopausal or have poor ovarian reserves
- Fail to fall pregnant after repeated IVF treatments
- Do not respond to the drugs used in IVF treatment
- Whose ovaries have been surgically removed for one reason or another, or those who have undergone chemotherapy and find their ovaries aren’t functioning correctly.
What is the process of egg donation?
We at Egg Donation South Africa have been through this process with many families in the past, and will guide our patients through each step with care and special attention.
The process will involve the obtaining of viable eggs (oocytes) from a healthy, young donor. The eggs will then be fertilized and transferred into your uterus.
Success rates of this procedure are attributable to the age of the egg donor. All donors of EDSA are healthy, young and vibrant women, and you can therefore expect a high pregnancy rate. The age of the recipient patient does not affect the pregnancy success rate.

Nothing can truly prepare one for the news that you will not be able to conceive. More than just a message or an announcement – this statement will impact on all the dreams of both you and your partner. Many people simply take the gift of being able to start a family for granted, but to many it is not as easy.
Bearing witness, friends’ and family‘s sometimes, easy road to the fulfillment of their dreams can be a painful reminder of one’s own inability. In my case it only served to add more pressure on my husband and I to start our own family. Once I started the process of fertility treatment, I was still fairly lucky enough that I could produce my own eggs. Along my journey, I met many wonderful women and fantastic potential parents who were not as lucky as I was, and were unable to produce their own eggs. They simply found themselves in an even more desperate situation than I was.
The only viable option available to people who find themselves in this situation is to make use of a suitable egg donor. Upon further study, I realized that there are indeed few donors available, and the waiting lists were absurd. It became evident to me that a true need existed for caring, professional and affordable egg donation services in South Africa. With my years of experience in running my own recruitment agency and models and students, I had continual access to willing and empathetic young women.
After some careful research and several meetings later with fertility clinics all around South Africa, I embarked on a journey to help assist couples to connect with an egg donor, and in so doing realize their dream of starting their own family.
